The Highlands of South India

Hill Station Packages Made for People Who Actually Need a Break

South India's hill stations are not postcards. They are places. The Western Ghats stretch across Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Karnataka like a slow exhale — cooling the air, softening the light, and thickening the forests until the plains feel like another world entirely. At 2,133 metres, Ooty's Nilgiris still carry the faint ghosts of morning mist. Munnar's tea estates glow a particular shade of green that photographers spend days trying to capture.

Our hill station packages exist because these places deserve more than a one-night stop. We design itineraries with enough breathing room for an unplanned walk, a second cup of tea, a conversation with a local on a plantation path. Whether you're planning a solo escape, a family holiday, or a quiet retreat with your partner, there's a hills tour with your name on it.

Tamil Nadu · 2,133 m

Kodaikanal Hill Station Package

Perched above the Palani Hills, Kodaikanal wraps itself around a star-shaped lake that catches cloud reflections all morning long. Bryants Park, Coaker's Walk, and the Silver Cascade waterfall make every day feel gently eventful. This is the hill station that teaches you how to slow down without even trying.

Ooty Nilgiri hills landscape during hill station tour package
Tamil Nadu · 2,240 m

Ooty Hill Station Package

The Nilgiri Queen. Ooty is the hill station that started the whole idea of escaping to the hills — and it still delivers. Ride the UNESCO-listed toy train through eucalyptus forests, walk the botanical gardens at golden hour, and eat fresh homemade chocolate at a roadside stall. It's busy, yes, but unapologetically alive.

Munnar tea plantations Kerala hill station holiday package
Kerala · 1,600 m

Munnar Hill Station Package

Munnar is where the tea estates begin to feel like a religion. Row after geometric row of trimmed tea bushes climb every hillside, interrupted only by rivers and waterfalls. Eravikulam National Park is home to the endangered Nilgiri tahr, and the views from Top Station stretch so far they start to feel cinematic.

Yercaud Shevaroy Hills misty forest hill station tour
Tamil Nadu · 1,515 m

Yercaud Hill Station Package

Called the "Poor Man's Ooty" by those who discovered it first — a compliment, not a slight. Yercaud's Shevaroy Hills are draped in coffee and orange plantations, and the lake at its centre is calm enough to actually hear the birds. If you want a hill station holiday that hasn't been over-marketed, this is it.

Valparai tea estate and lion-tailed macaque hill station package
Tamil Nadu · 1,000–1,400 m

Valparai Hill Station Package

Valparai is genuinely off the tourist grid. To get here, you wind up 40 hairpin bends through Anamalai Tiger Reserve — and then suddenly, tea estates as far as the eye can see. Lion-tailed macaques cross the road casually. Elephants appear at dusk. This is a hill station package for people who want wildlife, wilderness, and absolute quiet.

Coonoor Nilgiri tea garden and Sim's Park hill station tour
Tamil Nadu · 1,858 m

Coonoor Hill Station Package

Ooty's quieter neighbour sits at the edge of the Nilgiris, producing some of India's finest orthodox teas. Sim's Park is a botanist's dream — over 1,000 plant species crammed into manicured terraces. The view from Lamb's Rock over the Coimbatore plains is one you'll describe for years after returning. Coonoor rewards those who linger.

Wayanad Kerala forest and waterfalls hill station holiday
Kerala · 700–2,100 m

Wayanad Hill Station Package

Wayanad is where the forest presses in close on all sides and you start to feel genuinely small — in the best way. Edakkal Caves carry 8,000-year-old petroglyphs. Chembra Peak's heart-shaped lake requires a guided trek but rewards you with one of Kerala's most photographed views. This is a hill station package for the genuinely adventurous.

Kotagiri Nilgiri hills plateau hill station tour package
Tamil Nadu · 1,793 m

Kotagiri Hill Station Package

The oldest and least-visited of the three Nilgiri hill stations, Kotagiri carries a rare unhurried quality. The Kodanad viewpoint offers panoramic views over the Moyar River gorge. Catherine Falls — a twin-cascade tucked into dense shola forest — is worth the 3-km walk down. Those who find Ooty too busy often end up quietly loyal to Kotagiri.

Meghamalai High Wavy Mountains cardamom estate hill station package
Tamil Nadu · 1,500 m

Meghamalai Hill Station Package

Known as the "High Wavy Mountains," Meghamalai is Tamil Nadu's best-kept secret. Cardamom estates perfume the air. Leopards, sloth bears, and hornbills share the same forest. The road up passes through Periyar Tiger Reserve's buffer zone — which means the drive itself is part of the experience. This hill station holiday is for those who want to disappear, properly.

What Makes Our Hill Station Packages Different

Most tour packages are built around what's easiest to arrange, not what's best for you. We've never operated that way. Every hill station tour package we offer started as a trip we took ourselves, argued about at the office, and redesigned until it felt right. We know which tea factory in Munnar lets you actually talk to the workers. We know the back road into Coonoor that takes 15 extra minutes and is worth every one of them.

Our team is based in Chennai and travels regularly to every destination we sell. That's not a marketing line — it's how we know that the best room at a particular Kodaikanal property faces east, or that Valparai's elephant corridor is most active at 6 AM on weekdays. We bring that ground-level knowledge directly into how we plan your trip — no middlemen, no guesswork, and no generic hill station itineraries that could belong to anyone.

Before You Pack Your Bag

Six Things to Know Before You Book a Hill Station Package

These aren't safety disclaimers. They're the kind of things a well-travelled friend would tell you over coffee before you left.

01
Best Time to Visit South India's Hill Stations

October through June is the sweet spot for most hill station packages. Summer (March–June) brings crowds escaping the plains heat but also reliable blue skies. Winter (November–February) offers the crispest air and clearest views. Monsoon travel is beautiful but requires local knowledge of which roads hold.

02
How to Get There from Chennai

Most South India hill stations are 5–9 hours from Chennai by road. Yercaud is the closest at around 5 hours via Salem. For Munnar and Wayanad, fly into Coimbatore (1 hour from Chennai) and drive from there — it cuts travel time significantly. We handle all transfers as part of our hill station tour packages.

03
Pack for Temperature Swings

Hill station evenings can drop to 8–12°C even in summer. Bring one warm layer regardless of when you travel. Light breathable clothing works for days; a fleece or light jacket is non-negotiable after sundown. Waterproof footwear earns its place in any hill station holiday bag.

04
Respect the Ecology

Many of our hill station destinations sit within or adjacent to tiger reserves and biosphere areas. Single-use plastics are prohibited in most zones. Stick to marked trails, don't feed wildlife, and keep noise levels down near forest edges — especially in Valparai, Wayanad, and Meghamalai where corridors are genuinely active.

05
Eat Like a Local While You're There

Each hill station has its own food culture. Ooty is known for homemade chocolates and the Nilgiri tea. Munnar's local eateries serve river fish curries and fresh spice-laced soups. Wayanad's tribal-run homestays prepare bamboo-cooked rice dishes that you'll spend years trying to recreate. Don't stick to hotel menus.

06
Book Weekdays When You Can

Weekends and public holidays transform even the quieter hill stations into traffic puzzles. If your schedule allows, a Wednesday to Sunday trip gives you the best of both worlds — empty roads at the start, a gentler crowd by the end. We factor this into our hill station package itineraries when we can.

Common Questions

Hill Station Package FAQs

Everything you're wondering about, answered plainly — no fluff, no upselling.

Which are the best hill station packages in South India?
South India offers exceptional hill station packages across destinations like Ooty, Munnar, Kodaikanal, Yercaud, Coonoor, Valparai, Wayanad, Kotagiri, and Meghamalai. Each offers a unique experience — from Munnar's sprawling tea estates to Kodaikanal's misty lake trails and Wayanad's wildlife corridors. The "best" depends entirely on what kind of traveller you are.
What is the best time to book a hill station tour package?
October through June works well for most South India hill station packages. Summer months (March–June) are ideal for escaping plains heat. Monsoon (July–September) brings dramatic greenery, though some roads may be slick. Winter (October–February) offers crisp, clear skies and the most comfortable temperatures for walking and trekking.
Do hill station packages include accommodation and transport?
Yes. Our hill station packages include comfortable accommodation, AC cab transport, guided sightseeing, and 24/7 traveller support. Meals and specific add-ons — like plantation walks, wildlife safaris, or trekking permits — can be customised based on your preference and budget. Nothing is hidden in the pricing.
Which hill station is best for families with children?
Ooty and Kodaikanal are wonderful choices for family hill station packages — they offer gentle landscapes, boat rides, toy train experiences (in Ooty), and plenty of open space for children to roam. Yercaud is another family-friendly option, being less crowded with easy terrain and a genuinely relaxed pace.
Is Meghamalai suitable for a hill station holiday package?
Absolutely. Meghamalai, often called the 'High Wavy Mountains', is one of Tamil Nadu's least-touched hill stations. It's perfect for travellers seeking solitude, rare wildlife sightings, and views of tea and cardamom estates without the crowds. We offer specially curated Meghamalai packages with forest stay options and guided nature walks.
How far are these hill stations from Chennai?
Distances from Chennai vary: Yercaud is the closest at ~250 km (around 5 hours), followed by Ooty at ~550 km, Kodaikanal at ~470 km, and Munnar at ~600 km. Wayanad, Valparai, Coonoor, Kotagiri, and Meghamalai range from 400–650 km. All are reachable by road, and we arrange pickup directly from Chennai as part of every hill station package.
